 ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jazlyn Sanderson

I am a current honors student at the University of Arkansas School of Art, majoring in art history and minoring in history. I plan to graduate with my Bachelor of Arts in the fall of 2020. My interests lie in pre-Columbian art/artisan crafts (e.g., textiles, pottery, mosaics). My current research looks into the varying differences of materials, meanings, and modes of production across the pre-Columbian world.

I currently work as a part-time Support Administrative Analyst at the University of Arkansas TRIO Talent Search Programs as well as interning with the Museum of Native American History. I have also interned at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Art Authority while in college. After I snag my diploma in December, I plan on finding a career in a museum. After gaining some experience for a few years, I would love to return to complete my graduate degree in a related field.

Crafting has always been a passionate hobby of mine! I love sewing, cake decorating, journaling, and painting. There are a ton of crafts I have always wanted to try, such as bookbinding, weaving, and hand embroidery. While I admit I'm not great at many crafts, mainly sculpture, woodworking, and pottery, I also know everyone can't be great at everything. I intend to post about various projects I take on or attempt to take on, here and show my journey while also establishing the history of those who came before.

If you're interested in Native American history (and crafts) I recommend you check out another blog I frequently write on at MONAH!
